Donor Embryos 2

For many of our patients and couples, not being able to conceive is a challenging obstacle. At Elite IVF Solutions, we offer “Third-Party Reproduction” solutions for those individuals and couples who may benefit from donor assistance.

“Third-Party Reproduction,” according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, refers to the use of eggs, sperm or embryos that have been donated by a third person (donor) to enable an infertile individual or couple to become parent(s). The use of donor eggs, sperm or embryos can then be used in ART (assisted reproductive technology) procedures such as IUI and IVF. “Third-Party Reproduction” also includes surrogacy with a gestational carrier.

Embryo Donation

Embryo donation involves using another individual’s or couple’s embryo(s) that were produced from previous IVF cycle(s) in order to conceive. For many patients and couples undergoing IVF, more embryo(s) are oftentimes created and cryopreserved (frozen) than are used to successfully complete one’s family. These remaining embryo(s) are often donated, providing a unique opportunity to help other individuals or couples experience pregnancy and childbirth.

We follow the guidelines of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) as well as FDA regulations for embryo donation. We select donated embryos from individuals and couples, or from Donor Embryo Agencies, only after appropriate physical, genetic and psychological screening.

How it works:

The donated embryo is placed into the recipient’s uterus through a simple procedure similar to an IVF embryo transfer. Recipients will typically be on medication(s) to help ensure appropriate timing and uterine condition for implantation.

If the embryo implants, the pregnancy continues just like any other.

The baby will not be genetically related to the recipient or their partner, but the recipient can still experience pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding (if desired).

Why some people choose embryo donation:

It can be less expensive than creating new embryos through IVF.

It offers an opportunity to carry and give birth, even if using your own eggs or sperm isn’t possible.

It allows recipients to give an existing embryo a chance at life.

Things to consider:

Medical and counseling sessions are mandatory before starting.

Consultation with a reproductive law specialist is often required to ensure the donation is clear and final.

Emotional aspects—such as talking with your child in the future about their genetic origins—are important to think about. Our reproductive mental health providers are especially skilled in this area.
