Eating a balanced diet is of paramount importance before, during, and after infertility treatment. All infertility treatments focus on stimulating healthy eggs. In order to give yourself the best chance possible, your body requires vitamins and nutrients in the correct balance. Please avoid all fried or fatty foods. Please increase your quantity of vegetables and fruits. We believe that nutrition is such an important factor in your success that we are happy to recommend a nutritionist with particular experience in the treatment of infertility.
Exercise is also critically important. Cardio workouts are especially recommended before you start fertility medications. Exercise stimulates the liver to produce sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). SHBG is the protein carrier for hormones such as Estrogen and Testosterone and balances their concentrations in the blood. As you can tell, we are firm believers in "balance". Once ovarian-stimulating hormones are started, please reduce your exercise program to walking. As each individual treatment plan is different, please discuss your exercise program with Dr. Lindheim.
Please do not smoke or be around anyone who smokes. Smoking any substance is directly harmful to eggs and sperm.
